In other words, the service disruption time is considered downtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, we have seen multiple companies notifies their end-users through some electronic media about the upcoming date and time when the server would be unavailable for some maintenance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That kind of practice enables the end-users conscious about the production server <a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/managed-cloud-migration-services\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">downtime during the cloud migration<\/span><\/strong><\/a> over that period that can be completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/cloud-migration-services\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"729\" height=\"91\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-6.jpg\" alt=\"What is Downtime? How to Avoid Downtime during Cloud Migration - know more\" class=\"wp-image-2685\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-6.jpg 729w, https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-6-300x37.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the need for downtime?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Downtime <\/strong>is required for cloud <a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/blog\/on-premise-to-cloud-migration-without-downtime\/\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">migration from on-prem to cloud<\/span><\/strong><\/a> or cloud to cloud migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For an example &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">To have consistent data on the target cloud.<br>To enable the server to connect with the network.<br>DNS propagation if it is required.<br>Application compatibility with cloud technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And there are multiple other reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Migrate a Windows server from on-prem to the cloud:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We use the <a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/azure-cloud-migration-services\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Microsoft tool<\/span><\/strong><\/a> like <strong>VSS snapshots<\/strong>. That takes a point in time snapshot and is required to have all the files committed from the memory to the disk. Those files or blocks get migrate into the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, if the bandwidth is too low and there are huge data to move. The migration may take a long time to complete. The source data which is produced after taking the <strong>VSS Snapshot<\/strong> would not be there on the target <strong>VM\/Instance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To avoid that inconsistency, it is necessary to disable the application or stop all the services which produces data on the source, so that there would not be any data on the source even after the initial snapshot, which makes the target VM same as the source VM with the similar data and that makes the target<a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/vmware-cloud-migration-services\"> <\/a><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/vmware-cloud-migration-services\">VMware<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>ready to be converted as a production server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Avoid Downtime during Cloud Migration?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cCloud migration is all about the planning and execution\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expert team sits and identify the time frame when the production server is in less use. The monitoring tool plays a major role here. The bandwidth and the data calculation should be done before doing the cloud migration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the calculation shows the migration over the public internet would take a longer time. To reduce the downtime, it&#8217;s always suggested to use some other means like <a href=\"https:\/\/liainfraservices.com\/aws-cloud-migration-services\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">AWS cloud<\/span><\/strong><\/a> snowball to migrate the data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we do a cloud migration, it&#8217;s not just a single time move. There are multiple times the sync happens before deciding to go for final cutover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, during the initial migration, we need to make sure the server disruption is near zero.
