Windows Boot Concepts &amp; its sequence Lists are just an attempt to put all the pieces together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power on the machine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>POST (Power On Self Test)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>POST verifies if the volume and current levels are correct.<\/li><li>If everything is cleared and good, then power good signal is sent to the Processor.<\/li><li>The microprocessor then executes BIOS.<\/li><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BIOS (Basic Input Output Systems)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is a hardcoded code or firmware with a set of instruction.<\/li><li>It resides on ROM, which is present on the motherboard.<\/li><li>It then access the information stored in CMOS, DIP switch, Jumper and assign the necessary system resources.<\/li><li>Now it determines the sequence of devices to load based on the settings stored on BIOS to start the OS.<\/li><li>It will start by reading from the first bootable device, that can be hard drive, cd anything. <\/li><li>If it does not find the specified device, the boot process will fail with error.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/cloud-migration-services\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"729\" height=\"91\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-16.jpg 729w, https:\/\/www.liainfraservices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/To-know-more-about-Cloud-Migration-Services-16-300x37.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MBR \u2013 Master Boot Record <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first 512 bytes of block on disk sector which contains 64 bytes of partition table and some inbuilt program which has the below function<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finds Active Drive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bootable partition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reads Boot Sector ( It is the first sector on the Active disk partition)<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: MBR and Boot Sector gets created during OS installation.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: Why only 4 primary partition types are allowed for MBR partition type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MBR contains 64 bytes of partition table info for 4 partition with 16 bytes each.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Boot Sector loads <strong>\u201cbootmgr\u201d<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>\u2192 This is called boot loader<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The boot loader ( bootmgr ) looks for the active partition on the drive.<\/li><li>It then loads the Boot Configuration Database (bcd).<\/li><li>It uses the information stored in the BCD to finish finding and loaded the selected Operating System.<\/li><li>Windows Boot Loader loads the OS Kernel, but does not initialize it, the OS components are stored on RAM then.<\/li><li>Boot loader loads HAL.dll file. This provides an interface between OS and particular set of hardware.<\/li><li>The kernel initializes and takes over from boot loader.<\/li><li>The Registry with HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\\HARDWARE key, and <\/li><li>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\SELECT subkey (called the \u201cClone Control Set\u201d) and loads the remainder of the device drivers.<\/li><li>Control sets are areas of the registry that contain the low-level configuration for the system, such as the list of device drivers and services to start.<\/li><li>Finally, the session manager is started, which executes any boot-time command files.<\/li><li>Which creates a paging file for the Virtual Memory Manager<\/li><li>Creates links to the file system that can be used by DOS commands, and finally starts the I\/O subsystem to handle all I\/O.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Files Access during the boot process.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To see the system and windows files during boot.
